The first time I had Agnolotti was at Scarpetta. I described them as little pillows of heaven. Agnolotti resembles bed pillows, all the way. Ravioli is more like a couch throw pillow. Gnocchi is similar to those thick round pillows that you use for back support. I love ravioli and gnocchi, but I long for Agnolotti the way I long for my bed pillow at night.
I had Agnolotti at Craft over a year ago when I did the tasting menu. It was my favorite dish of the 7 courses. When I returned to Craft in September, just a few weeks after their 3 star review, I was happy to see Agnolotti as an appetizer. I think the Agnolotti we ordered had some white bean combination. Currently, they have squash in the Agnolotti. It is an ever changing dish.
The food at Craft is served family style. The Agnolotti comes out in a big dish and you just dig in. This pasta just melted in your mouth. I could not stop taking forkful after forkful of this dish. And there was a lot of it, so it just continued to please. Whatever the Agnolotti is stuffed in, it comes through the pasta and pleases your palette time and time again.
Some people say they do not like to go out to eat and get pasta because they can make it at home. Well first, I think pasta made from scratch always wins over anything you can get in a box. And, I may be able to whip up some delicious pesto linguini, but I cannot make a pasta dish like Agnolotti.
I hope the next time you see Agnolotti on a menu, your eyes will pop with excitement and you can enjoy this deliciously comforting and amazing pasta.
Have a delicious day!
