When searching menupages.com for a brunch spot, I stumbled across a new place called Olivia Bistro, located on 9th street between 1st and A. I had never heard of it and decided to give it a try.
It opened at 11 a.m. and we were the first to arrive. The restaurant itself is very pretty and clean, and the tables are very spread out. The owner and Executive Chef, Alain Bennouna, was there to greet us, seat us, take our orders, and serve us. I imagine that brunch service at this new restaurant is somewhat slow still, so Chef Alain seems to do it all.
The menu is Mediterranean inspired, with a few typical brunch dishes enhanced with Mediterranean flavors. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, served on a crepe. The Eggs Benedict arrived, as did Alex's dish, and a little of plate of bread was placed on the table. The bread would have been nice to have while waiting for the dishes.
The Eggs Benedict were great. There was some surprise sausage in the dish, which I loved, but which may turn off someone who ordered the dish not expecting meat. The crepe was also nice, and I really love when restaurants try something other than an english muffin. My only real complaint was that there was no side dish. There were no potatoes or salad. I looked at pictures of other Eggs Benedict dishes from other brunch spots, and usually something else comes on the plate, unless the eggs are so enormous that they encompass a whole meal.
For a lighter brunch, Olivia is a good spot! For that morning hangover that craves lots of meat and bread, Olivia may be too dainty for you.
Have a delicious day!
