Prix-fixe brunch can be a good way to start the day, since you can control your costs. You may need to control your costs after a night out on the town. Brunch prix-fixe can range from $9.99 to $25, one to three courses, one to unlimited cocktails, coffee, tea, soda, etc. So when you decide on a prix-fixe, it really depends on how much food you want, how much liquor you want, and how many options you need for your first big meal of the day. There is really no perfect prix-fixe since it is all relative.
I recently had an $11.95 prix-fixe, which included a dish and coffee, tea, or soda. That seems pretty reasonable, especially since liquids usually run at at least $2.50. I had this brunch at Cafe Centosette, and found the menu to be very extensive, with eggs, frittatas, sweet stuff and omelets. I ordered a coffee and Alex ordered a diet coke.
I love eggs benedict. When discussing brunch with someone the other day, I was saying that sometimes there is very little incentive to try new brunch places if you know what dish what you like and you know where to get it. If you love eggs benedict, and you know you can get them somewhere for $8.95, what is the incentive to try a more expensive eggs benedict? For me, the incentive lies in finding a restaurant that has a more creative way of preparing a usual brunch dish. Cafe Centosette did just that with their Eggs Benedict Park Avenue, which consists of two poached eggs over a CROISSANT, with salmon and tomato. It was a cross between eggs benedict and a breakfast sandwich, which I loved.
As we were enjoying our meals, the waitress asked me if I wanted more coffee and if Alex wanted more soda. More coffee was included, but there was a $2.50 charge for the soda. This kind of irked me. I understand that sodas are not usually included as free refills, but I just get a little peeved when someone asks me if I want more of something, when it is in fact not included. It is like when people tell you the desserts - you better watch out because those desserts may cost you $10 a pop.
Have a delicious day!
