Steak Frites

As I said yesterday, I ended up at Steak Frites on Wednesday.  We were excited that it was restaurant week, and we were happy to get a table.  The menu is great - tons of steaks, and tons of frites, but lots of other great stuff too.

First, we ordered a $32 bottle of Chardonnay which was so tasty!  I love a decent priced wine that is really good.  I saw that the mussels and frites were $19, and then I remembered something.  The online menu that I had looked at a few times before, because I read menus for fun, said that on Wednesdays, for $19, you can get unlimited mussels and frites!  My roommate Madeleine and I almost went one night an then had to change our plans.  

When the waitress returned, I asked her about the mussels special.  She said they have not had the special in months, and they just haven't updated the website.  So that is my whine of today, for this whine week: restaurants, please update your websites.  I understand that I should not read your menu as 100% guaranteed.  Of course dishes get removed and other dishes get added.  That doesn't matter.  But try to make sure your opening and closing hours are right, as I have showed up to brunch at restaurants not yet open.  And you should really keep special deals up to date! 

Anywho, I got the mussels and frites anyway, and everyone at the table enjoyed the frites.  The restaurant week menu was great, with luscious salads, steaks, lamb, and a LOT of chocolate!  I always hate when restaurant week menus neglect chocolate.  Steak Frites had TWO chocolate options! 

This place is tasty and pretty chill, and right off Union Square.  So check it out, but don't rely on the online source :)
