La Lucha

I heard about this sort of new taco place called La Lucha on Avenue A, and decided to check it out with 2 friends.  It seemed pretty cheap, and much to my surprise, it was an actual restaurant.  Granted, there are not a lot of seats.
When we arrived, there was only a table for two available, so we pulled over a third chair.  The decor is kind of cool, with interesting and random things on the wall.  It also projects a movie on the wall, which was kind of crazy.  It is an experience to say the least.
Click here for the menu.  This restaurant is ideal for sharing dishes.  At first, we could not decide if we wanted guacamole.  But the people next to us ordered it and it just looked so good, so we copied them and ordered it.  The guacamole is so tasty, and actually, the chips are incredible.  Instead of the flimsy regular chips, these were thick chips, ideal for dipping!  As your trusted food ally, I must warn you though.  The guacamole is very filling.  I only shared it with one other person, and were kind of full afterwards.  I would order it with a bigger group, or just take it easy on chowing down on the whole thing.
On to the tacos.  They have several different kinds of tacos.  We decided that the best thing to do was to order 2 of the $12 combos.  The $12 combos come with 3 of the same tacos.  6 tacos for $24 bucks for three people is not too bad.
We ordered the Mil Mascaras, which had steak, cheese, onion, and pepper.  The steak tacos were to die for.  I think next time I would order three of those just for myself.  The steak was really delicious, and the whole taco was flavorful.  We also ordered the Rayo de Jalisco, which is fried cheese with a choice of meat (we picked chicken).  Eating fried cheese in a taco is extremely filling.  I could not even finish my two tacos, after eating the filling guacamole, and steak, and fried cheese, but it was delicious.
The complaints would be that the taco shells themselves could be a little bigger.  And because everything is so filling, you may want to order in shifts, and see how full you get.  Overall, the restaurant itself is fun, and the waitstaff is very nice.  It is a no frills taco place, which rocks.

Have a delicious day!
